Scientist have recently unveiled world’s smallest laser contained in a silica sphere just about 44 nanometers across, which is ten times smaller in wave length that of light. This new laser is named as ‘spaser.’ While laser amplifies light by using mirrored cavity to identify it, the spaser amplifies surface plasmons and thus little oscillation in the density of free electrons on the surface of metals in turn produces light waves. Scientist community all over the world has hailed it as a significant development. This will enable to process information thousand times faster than microelectronics chip used in modern computer.
